It is the oldest continuously operating daily newspaper in Alaska, and by circulation, it is the second-largest daily newspaper in the state. It is owned by the family trusts of Dean Singleton and Richard Scudder, founders of the newspaper chain MediaNews Group, but it is not considered part of the MediaNews chain.
