Botha won the vacant IBF heavyweight title in 1995 when he outpointed Axel Schulz in Germany. The fight was later declared a `no contest` and Botha stripped of the title when he failed a steroids test, however he retains recognition as a former champion. After his days as a top contender came to an end in 2002, an aged Botha has competed in numerous kickboxing and mixed martial arts events.
