It is native to the northwestern corner of California, where it grows in the serpentine soils of the coastal and inland mountains. It is probably also present in Oregon. This bulbous perennial herb produces an erect stem 10 to 40 centimeters tall surrounded by several oval leaves up to 10 centimeters long.
