Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Gisekiaceae is a family of flowering plants. The family has not been recognized by most taxonomists. The APG II system (2003) does recognize the family and assigns it to the order Caryophyllales in the clade core eudicots. This represents a change from the APG system (1998) which did not recognize this family. The flowering plants (angiosperms), also known as Angiospermae or Magnoliophyta, are the most diverse group of land plants. Together with gymnosperms, they are the only extant groups of seed-producing plants, but they can be distinguished from the gymnosperms by a series of synapomorphies (derived characteristics). These characteristics include flowers, endosperm within the seeds, and the production of fruits that contain the seeds.
