HMCS Halifax (K237) was a Royal Canadian Navy Flower-class corvette which took part in convoy escort duties during World War II. She was laid down at Collingwood Shipyards Ltd., Collingwood on 26 April 1941 and launched on 4 October of that year. She was commissioned into the RCN 6 weeks later on 26 November. On 19 May 1942, Halifax, under command of A/Lt. Cdr. C. Copelin, RCNR rescued 3 survivors from the crew of the American trawler Foam which was attacked and sunk by gunfire from U-432 on 17 May approximately 85 nautical miles (157 km) south of Halifax Harbour.
