High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! HMS Apollo (F70) was a Batch 3B Broadbeam Leander-class frigate of the Royal Navy (RN). She was, like the rest of the class, named after a figure of mythology. Apollo was built by Yarrow Shipbuilders of Scotstoun. She was launched on the 15th October 1970 and commissioned on the 28th May 1972 (the penultimate Leander). Propulsion: 2 x steam turbines developing 30,000 HP providing a top speed of 28 Knots and a range of 4,000 miles at 15 Knots.
