High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! HMS Babet was a 20-gun sixth rate post ship of the Royal Navy. She had previously been a corvette of the French Navy under the name Babet, until her capture in 1794, during the French Revolutionary Wars. She served with the British until disappearing the Caribbean in 1801, and was presumed to have foundered. Babet was built at Le Havre, one of a two ship class of 20-gun corvettes designed by Joseph-Marie-Blaise Coulomb. Her sister, Prompte, was captured by Captain Andrew Snape Douglas's HMS Phaeton in the Bay of Biscay on 18 May 1793 and was taken into the Royal Navy as HMS Prompte. Babet was laid down in September 1792, launched on 12 February 1793, and completed by May that year.
