High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! HMS Berwick was a 70-gun third rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, built by Phineas Pett II at Chatham Dockyard and launched in 1679. She was rebuilt at Deptford in 1700, again as a 70-gun third rate, and was hulked in 1715. Berwick was broken up in 1723. The Royal Navy of the United Kingdom is the oldest of HM Armed Forces (and is therefore known as the Senior Service). From the beginning of the 18th century until well into the 20th century it was the most powerful navy in the world, playing a key part in establishing the British Empire as the dominant world power from 1815 until the early 1940s.
