Blanche — along with Adventure and Basilisk — was in close-order escort during the night of 12-13 November 1939. Adventure— herself a minelaying cruiser — hit a magnetic mine, and was bought to a stop. Blanche immediately hove to in order to lend assistance, along with Basilisk. It was during this process that Blanche was also hit by the same kind of mine and seriously damaged. Blanche was taken in tow by the rescue tug Fabia and sank the following day en route to harbour.
