She was part of the Caroline group of the C-class of cruisers. She was laid down on 13 November 1913, launched 16 December 1914 and commissioned into the navy on 15 May 1915. She was assigned to the Grand Fleet upon completion, and then went on to sink the German raider Greif on 29 February 1916.
