High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! HMS Gipsy (not Gypsy) was a Gipsy-class destroyer which served with the Royal Navy. She was launched by Fairfield on the 9th of March 1897 and served in home waters through the Great War. She destroyed a U boat which had foundered on the Goodwin Sands in 1917 and was sold off in 1921. The Royal Navy of the United Kingdom is the oldest of HM Armed Forces (and is therefore known as the Senior Service). From the beginning of the 18th century until well into the 20th century it was the most powerful navy in the world, playing a key part in establishing the British Empire as the dominant world power from 1815 until the early 1940s.
