High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! HMS Hurricane was a Royal Navy Havant class destroyer. Hurricane was launched on 29 September 1939 and sunk by U-415 on 24 December 1943, north-east of Azores in position 45 10'N, 22 05'W. Hurricane had been involved in rescuing survivors following the sinking of the SS City of Benares in 1940, a ship which had been transporting children from Britain to Canada. The ship had previously been bombed and sunk in a German air raid on Liverpool during the night of 7 May - 8 May 1941. It was raised, repaired and returned to service in January 1942.
