High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! HMS K9 was a K class submarine built by Vickers, Barrow-in-Furness. K9 was laid down on 28 June 1915. She was commissioned on 9 May 1917. In 1921, K9 was placed in reserve. K9 was sold in Charlestown on 23 July 1926. The K class submarines were a class of steam-propelled submarines of the Royal Navy designed in 1913. Intended as large, fast vessels which had the endurance and speed to operate with the battle fleet, they gained notoriety, and the nickname of Kalamity class, for being involved in many accidents.
