HMS Leviathan was a Majestic-class aircraft carrier laid down at Swan Hunter on 18 October 1943, and launched on 7 June 1945. However, the construction on the ship was suspended after World War II ended, and, unlike the other members of her class, she was never completed beyond having the island installed. She was towed from the shipyards in the River Tyne and moved to Portsmouth in 1946 and remained there until 1968.
