The HMS Squirrel was a British Royal Navy ship that was built in 1755, which enforced unpopular customs laws in colonial New England. The ship was originally constructed in 1755. After serving during the French and Indian War, it was used to enforce unpopular customs laws in New England prior to the American Revolution and contained twenty guns. In 1764 while in Newport, Rhode Island the Squirrel came to the assistance of the HMS St John (1764), which was attacked by American colonists on Goat Island (Rhode Island). The Squirrel was in active service until it was sold in 1783.
