Despite the first United Nations conference on women in Mexico City in 1975, the Nairobi conference in 1985, and the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, and the 1979 United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against women(CEDAW), women continue to face gender discrimination, oppression and disempowerment in all areas of their life. This is a qualitative study that recounts the lived experiences of inequality among a cross-section of women from different socio-economic, rural and urban backgrounds in Ghana. These women, in their own voices, described their experiences of lack of sexual and reproductive rights, inheritance of properties, and lack of effective political participation and decision-making in the governance of their country. The book also discussed the barriers that hinder women from achieving gender equality, such as multiple roles of women, structural and cultural barriers, and lack of education. The book, from Social Work and feminist perspectives discussed suggestions for the advancement of gender equality in Ghana.
