High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! India Pale Ale, abbreviated IPA, is a type of ale that is light amber to copper in colour, medium to medium-high alcohol by volume, with hoppy, bitter and sometimes malty flavour. IPA is a style of beer that is usually included in the broader category of pale ale. It was first brewed in England in the 18th century. The first known use of the expression "India pale ale" comes from an advertisement in the Liverpool Mercury newspaper published January 30 1835. Before January 1835, and for some time after this date, this style of beer was referred to as "pale ale as prepared for India", "India Ale", "pale India ale" or "pale export India ale"
