The Iran–Pakistan–India gas pipeline, also known as the IPI pipeline or the Peace pipeline, is a proposed pipeline to deliver natural gas from Iran to Pakistan and India.The idea was conceived by a young civil engineer in mid 1950s, when an article of his was published by the Military College of Engineering, Risalpur. His name was Malik Aftab Ahmed Khan. He retired from the Pakistan Army as a Lt. Col. in 1976 and died in 1999, at the age of 70 years. The article "Persian Pipeline" also mentioned the method for its protection along the hostile territory by establishing mini battalion-size cantonments along its proposed route through Baluchistan/Sind. Serving multiple function, to control dacoits and terrorists etc. and to provide protection to the pipeline.
