The discography of the King Crimson consists of eleven studio albums, twenty-five live albums, eight compilation albums, three extended plays (EPs), fourteen singles and six video albums. In August 1967, brothers Michael and Peter Giles, and Robert Fripp formed the band Giles, Giles and Fripp. They recorded several unsuccessful singles and one album, The Cheerful Insanity of Giles, Giles and Fripp. The group then recruited Ian McDonald and Judy Dyble. McDonald brought in Peter Sinfield, and one of the first songs that they wrote together was "The Court of the Crimson King". Peter Giles was replaced by Greg Lake, and the band morphed into what would become King Crimson. The band, conceived on 30 November 1968, first rehearsed on 13 January 1969. King Crimson made their live debut on 9 April 1969, and participated at the free concert in Hyde Park, London, staged by The Rolling Stones in July 1969 before 650,000 people.
