In the contemporary Christian church, the word “Kingdom” and the phrase “Kingdom of God” have become repetitively used, and are primarily used as “buzz” words for many churches. The contemporary church’s transition into using the word “Kingdom” is a tell tale sign of where God is moving His church. God desires to shift today’s church into a Kingdom posture, and this involves the church being willing to be a counter-culture rather than culturally affirming. Thus, the Bible states, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:5) and “be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2b). The Kingdom message and power is the only means of transformation for a disciple of Christ. However, this has always been the fact from the beginning. Thus, when the plan of God’s redemption unfolds in what we refer to as the New Testament, it does so with the preaching of a message that we don’t readily see in the Old Testament scriptures – the Kingdom. In fact, the Kingdom of God is at the core of God’s message of redemption to humankind and so its proper definition is of the utmost importance.
