Laiki agora, also common in the plural Laikes agores, are street markets that operate all over Greece, selling foodstuffs and gardening or household equipment, as well as children toys and various "do it yourself" tools. It is considered an important social custom and tradition in Greece and going to a people's market can be an important learning experience for visitors and tourists to Greece who wish to understand the authentic local Greek culture. These markets also serve important socialisation roles apart from their commercial function, namely the cultivation of personal relations in neighbourhoods and between buyers and sellers, thus making them a modern version of the agoras of Ancient Greece.
