We first meet Daisy in her beautiful home with devoted husband and well-behaved children. However, we do not tarry here long for we are taken back in time to trace Daisy`s history. The story begins in a rural community in Yorkshire. Although living conditions are harsh for the local populace, they are treated well by a benevolent gentry. Daisy is born into this well-ordered society, but after her mother dies birthing her second child and her father tragically loses his life, she is brought up by her grandparents who are guilty of deliberate deception. Time passes and Daisy eventually finds employment at a large country house where, one day, a child arrives to take up domestic duties. Daisy is amazed to be `looking at a younger version of herself`. Is this the sister she assumed dead? The younger son of the household also faces a family mystery: why is his philandering brother so unlike him? We are enthralled as the plot unfolds, inextricably binding the fate of the two girls with that of the two brothers. This is a story of dark family secrets, tragic conflict, misunderstandings and hidden truths. It is also an absorbing tale of romantic love fulfilled in a very satisfying denouement. Altogether, a great all-round read!
