The sitcom aired between 1968 and 1977, and there were a total of eighty episodes spread over nine series, as well as four Christmas specials. Most episodes were also adapted for radio. The show was set in the fictional seaside town of Walmington-on-Sea, on the south coast of England, making the Home Guard the front line of defence against an invasion by the enemy forces across the English Channel, which formed a backdrop to the series.
