Since its inception in 1991, it has been awarded annually to the writer of the year`s "best work of creative non-fiction". The award is limited to Canadian authors for their first or second published work. The literary award, was established by an endowment from Edna Staebler, an award winning author and journalist, and is administered by Wilfrid Laurier University`s Faculty of Arts.
