The episodes are co-produced by Bones, Aniplex, Sony Computer Entertainment, and are directed by Masayuki Miyaji, and features the character design by Ayumi Kurashima, Xam`d design by Seiichi Hashimoto, and mechanic design by Kimitoshi Yamane. The story follows Akiyuki Takehara, a high school student, who becomes involved in a terrorist attack and is given the power to transform into a creature known as Xam`d, as well as his interactions with Haru Nishimura, Akiyuki`s friend who attempts to rendezvous with him, and Nakiami, a mysterious girl who helps Akiyuki to subdue the Xam`d creature.
