Magma mixing, a controversial theory for a long time that is now commonly accepted, describes interaction between coeval felsic and mafic magmas. It comprises mechanical, thermal, and chemical exchanges between magmatic liquids and is significant in the generation of calc-alkaline granitoids. Processes are recorded by internal texture and chemistry of minerals. Different optical methods: polarization microscope, cathodoluminescence (CL), and Nomarski differential interference contrast (DIC) microscopy, are combined together to demonstrate efficiency in integration of technical methods for petrographic studies. Special attention is paid to plagioclase which records physical and chemical changes in the existing environment during crystallisation. In addition to optical observations, geochemical analyses were also made. All observations and measurements were undertaken on samples collected in Szklarska Por?ba Huta/SW Poland. Rocks in this area show signs of magma mixing processes and belong to the Karkonosze granite pluton – an early Carboniferous intrusion in the central part of the Karkonosze-Izera Massif/Sudetes.
