He is the head of the Materials Research Group at King's College London, and the co-founder of Materials Library, a website for people working in materials science. He is a broadcaster and writer on science and engineering issues. He has done work with the Tate Modern, the Hayward Gallery, and the Wellcome Collection, and often gives talks at the Cheltenham Science Festival. In 2010 he was placed 89th in a Times list of the 100 most influential people in science. Miodownik was invited to deliver the 2010 Royal Institution Christmas Lectures
