High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Microperforation refers to the placement of holes or apertures in a material. Various applications include Packaging films (to allow the contents to breathe), medical films, micro perforated plate and sound and vapor barriers. The major processes for microperforating are: pins or needles, lasers, high pressure air, open flame and water jets. The most simple and cost effective method of microperforation is with pinned tooling, which is available as either a roller or plate. These tools can be integrated into an existing line of machinery, or built as a stand alone unit. There are two types of pin perforation processes: hot and cold. Cold perforation simply refers to a cold pin that penetrates a material. In materials that have elasticity this can result in a "volcano" hole that is preferred in many applications.
