The Military Reaction Force, Military Reconnaissance Force or Mobile Reconnaissance Force (MRF) was a covert intelligence-gathering and counter-insurgency unit of the British Army active in Belfast during The Troubles. Based on the "counter gangs" used by the British in the Mau Mau Uprising, the MRF was formed during the summer of 1971 and operated until late 1972 or early 1973. The MRF ran plain-clothes patrols in the city, ran agents and debriefed informants. It has been accused of attacking civilians and colluding with loyalist paramilitaries in its efforts to combat the Irish Republican Army (IRA).
