This is the ninth installment in the series and the first to be published exclusively under the Warner Bros. label. The story is to take place after the events of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, but during the time of first three games: Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II and Mortal Kombat 3. However, the events of the games are said to take place in a different scenario because Raiden, the god of thunder, has knowledge of the future.
