It is a remake of 1962 Marathi language film To Mee Navhech (English: I Am Not Him), written by Pralhad K. Atre and being acted by Prabhakar Panashikar. The film has been also made into a Hindi film Woh Main Nahin. The Hindi film was released in 1974, starring Navin Nischol in the lead role of the protagonist.
