He was introduced to the Carnatic violin at the age of 10 under his grandmother, Smt R. Komalavalli. He currently receives more advanced training from his uncle Vidwan Kalaimaamani Nagai Sri R. Muralidharan. All India Radio rates him as an A-grade artist, and he is also rated highly by Doordarshan Television. Nagai Sriram commenced his career as an violinist at the age of 12 when he played for Sri Neyveli Santhanagopalan in New Delhi. Since then, he has been a regular accompanist for many leading artists including Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, P. Unnikrishnan, T. N. Seshagopalan, T.V. Shankaranarayanan, O. S. Thyaagarajan, Madurai Seshagopalan, K.V. Naarayanaswamy, S. Sowmya, Hyderabad Brothers, Dr. N. Ramani, Sanjay Subrahmaniam, T. M. Krishna, and has also been a regular accompanist for Carnatica Bros.
