Nanci Kincaid is an American novelist who wrote a short story collection titled Pretending the Bed Is a Raft (1987), as well as novels Crossing Blood (1991), Balls (1999), Verbena (2002), and As Hot As It Was You Ought to Thank Me (2005). The film My Life Without Me was based on the title story in Pretending the Bed Is a Raft. Her most recent novel is "Eat, Drink, and be from Mississippi" (Little, Brown, 2009). She was born in Tallahassee, Florida and now lives in Honolulu, Hawaii, and San Jose, California with her husband, San Jose State University football coach Dick Tomey. She was previously married to former University of Wyoming and Arkansas State University football coach Al Kincaid Kincaid claims Alabama as her home state and much of her fiction is set there, but she has also lived in Tallahassee, FL; Pinetta, TX; Auburn, AL; Richmond, VA; Blacksburg, VA; St. Petersburg, TX; Pearisburg, VA; Tuscaloosa, AL; Greenville, NC; Laramie, WY; Decatur, AL; Charlotte, NC; Boston, MA; Tucson, AZ; Honolulu, HI; Austin, TX; and San Jose, CA.
