The company was founded in 1977. Abbreviated NEMF, it is one of several transportation companies controlled by CEO Myron Shevell and his family. NEMF employs 1,385 drivers and operates 1,446 power units. NEMF was awarded the National Shippers Strategic Transportation Council Carrier of the Year award in 2005 and 2007, under the Regional-Northeast category.
