High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! NewsCenter (NotiCentro in Spanish) is the name given to a number of local-news operations at American television stations. The name was first used in 1967 by WAPA-TV in San Juan, Puerto Rico as NotiCentro, and later in 1972 on ABC affiliate WCVB in Boston when it began operations. The name later spread to several NBC owned-and-operated stations, which then encouraged other affiliates of NBC (and other networks) to use the title. As implemented by WNBC (and copied by its sister stations and affiliates), the format combined features and hard news, and attempted to compete with its competitors' old movies and syndicated programming.
