The former sailor has won a silver medal in the South-east Asian Peninsular Games, and is currently the patron of the Singapore Sailing Federation. He is a vice-president of the Singapore National Olympic Council and a member of the International Olympic Committee IOC. He was elected to the IOC executive board at the 117th IOC Session on 9 July 2005, with 86 of 99 votes, following the withdrawal of Ivan Dibos of Peru. He is also currently serving as the Vice-President of the IOC. Ng was a member of the IOC Evaluation Commission looking at the bids for the 2012 Summer Olympics and part of the IOC team co-ordinating planning for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He also headed the organising committee for the 117th IOC Session in Singapore in July 2005, where the vote for the host city of the 2012 Summer Games was held. He is also a former vice-president of the International Sailing Federation and a former chairman of the Singapore Sports Council. He is currently Singapore's ambassador to Norway and Hungary.
