High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! No. 27 Squadron of the Royal Air Force operates the Boeing Chinook HC2 from RAF Odiham. Originally formed in WW1 with Martinsyde Elephant bombers, hence the use of an elephant for the squadron badge, and later transferring to Airco DH.4 and DH.9 light bombers. The squadron was disbanded after the war was over. On 1 April 1920, No. 27 was reformed by re-numbering No. 99 Squadron RAF then in India, flying Airco DH.9A light bombers. At the outbreak of war in 1940, the squadron was still flying doubledeckers, Westland Wapiti, Hawker Harts and DH Tiger Moths in a training capacity, but was retrained for Bristol Blenheims by the end of 1940.
