First recorded by Hank Snow in 1949, it was covered by Tony Sheridan and The Beatles, recorded at a time when the Beatles were performing in Hamburg, Germany in 1961. George Harrison played lead guitar on this version in 1961. Years later, in 1990, he played on another version performed by his then super-group band the Traveling Wilburys. On 24 July 1990, the Traveling Wilburys released the benefit album Nobody's Child: Romanian Angel Appeal which featured as its lead-track the song "Nobody's Child". Included on this version of the song was George Harrison, who had also appeared on the 1961 Beatles/Tony Sheridan version. The other members of the Traveling Wilburys joining him were Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty. Had he lived longer, Roy Orbison would have been on it also as he was still a Wilbury at the time of his death.
