It was designed by the prodigious movie palace architect John Eberson and built by Maximillian Dubois` construction company "Max and Sons" in 1924, who also built the Marquette Park Pavilion in Gary. A year later it opened featuring live stage shows, vaudeville acts, and eventually motion pictures.
