In mathematics, especially in the field of algebra known as group theory, the term pariah is used to distinguish a few sporadic simple groups which are not related to the monster simple group. Most of the 26 sporadic simple groups are either subgroups or sections of the monster group, and are called the "Happy Family". The six exceptions are known as the pariah groups.Of these, J4 and Ly are small extensions of subgroups/sections of the monster, so only four of these pariahs are not related to the monster.
