Other countries, including many Latin American countries (like Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Colombia) also have a version of this dish, including one made with plantains, besides the traditional made with pasta.Pastichio is a layered cassarole, made with a base of pasta noodles, often ziti or penne, but sometimes with elbow macaroni. The middle is a ground meat sauce, typically beef or lamb sauteed with spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and oregano. Another layer of pasta is added, and topped with a bechamel sauce. Some restaurants serve the final dish with a red-sauce although that is not traditional.
