Patti LaBelle is the debut solo album for singer Patti LaBelle, released in the fall of 1977. The album is notable for not only the singer's covers of The Skyliners' "Since I Don't Have You", Edwin Starr's "Funky Music Sho Nuff Turns Me On", and Bob Dylan's "Most Likely You'll Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine", but also for her first couple of solo hits, the disco/funk-flavored "Joy to Have Your Love" and the gospel ballad "You Are My Friend".Her first album since the departure of her long-running girl group Labelle, LaBelle admitted years later that she was scared at the premise of recording an album without her group and feared that after their March 1977 split that, like Diana Ross of The Supremes, that she would be blamed for the group's demise.
