High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Paul James Michael O'Grady MBE (born 14 June 1955) is a BAFTA-award winning English comedian of television, radio and stage. He achieved initial fame as the creator of comic drag character Lily Savage, a vampish scouser known as the "Birkenhead Bombshell". He is also noted as the presenter of the The Paul O'Grady Show, which was aired on Channel 4 until 18 December 2009. Paul O'Grady was born to Patrick and Mary O'Grady in Birkenhead. The family lived in suburban Tranmere, Merseyside. His family were devout Roman Catholics, originally from County Roscommon, Ireland. Until the age of 11 he attended Redcourt, the junior school attached to St Anselm's College, after which he attended Blessed Edward Campion R.C. Secondary Modern. His jobs have included civil servant, barman for Yates Wine Lodge, office work in an abattoir, woodsman and, for a time, as an assistant clerk at Liverpool Magistrates' Court. He also worked in a children's home in West Kirby and spent some years as a peripatetic care officer for Camden council.
