The company and service were founded in 1995 by Meng Weng Wong and Reuven Bell while they were students at the University of Pennsylvania. The service began as an email aliasing and forwarding solution but has since expanded its offerings. It is known in the internet community for having proposed the RFC for SPF, a proposal for fixing SMTP. As an e-mail service provider, primarily of mail forwarding services, Pobox.com has a vested interest in reform. The company manages corporate e-mail and offers spam filtering using RBLs and Cloudmark Authority. Pobox supports IMAP, like AOL, but unlike many Internet Service Providers. Meng Weng Wong is a serial entrepreneur. In 1994 he founded pobox.com, an email services company. In 2003 he led the group that designed the Sender Policy Framework standard (RFC4408) which was later embraced and extended by Microsoft.
