High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Pomo people are one linguistic branch of Native American people of Northern California, including the original speakers and all their descendants. The historic Pomo language family territory was large, bordered by the Pacific Coast to the west, extending inland to Clear Lake, and mainly between Cleone in the north down to Duncans Point. One small group, the Northeastern Pomo of the Stonyford vicinity of Colusa County, was separated from the core Pomo area by lands inhabited by Yuki and Wintuan speakers. Numerous Pomo tribes have been federally recognized. The people called Pomo were originally linked by location, language, and other elements of culture. They were not socially or politically linked as a large unified "tribe". Instead, they lived in small groups ("bands"), linked by geography, lineage and marriage. They relied upon fishing, hunting and gathering for their food.
