Ponquogue Causeway was a formerly proposed parkway in Suffolk County, New York, designed to connect Montauk Highway(then NY 27) in Hampton Bays with the proposed Ocean Parkway Extension on Fire Island`s Tiana Beach. The road was designed to either replace or run parallel to Suffolk County Road 32 as a two-lane, two-way limited-access parkway, that included a whole new bridge across Shinnecock Bay. As opposition to the Ocean Parkway extension stalled and killed that project, so too went the Ponquogue Causeway. However in the 1980s, Suffolk County Department of Public Works realized they needed to replace the old wooden drawbridge that carried Suffolk CR 32, and with help from the New York State Department of Transportation, built a new one west of the former bridge, which survives as a fishing pier.
