Pretoria High School for Girls, also called Girls High or PHSG, is a public high school for girls located in Hatfield, Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa. During the second Boer War, the founder of the school, Lord Milner, the Colonial Secretary in Pretoria decided to build English-speaking secondary schools which came to be known as "Milner schools". Pretoria High School was formed which was a coed educational institution under Charles Hope. In the 1880s the South African Republic Government built a Staatsmodelskool on the corner of Skinner and van der Walt Streets. Pretoria High school separated in to a single-sex high school institution and became Pretoria High School for Girls. Pretoria High School had only been functioning for a short while, when the Second Boer War broke out in 1899, closing down the school. The staff and pupils joined the commandos.
