High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! A prime gap is the difference between two successive prime numbers. Although the average gap between primes increases as the natural logarithm of the integer, the ratio of the maximum prime gap to the integers involved also increases as larger and larger numbers and gaps are encountered. Such a pair of prime numbers is called a prime twin. The conjecture has been researched by many number theorists. Most mathematicians believe the conjecture to be true, based only on numerical evidence and heuristic reasoning involving the probabilistic distribution of primes using the Cramer model.
