Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Protect Gear (Purotekutogia) is the full-body armour set worn by the "Kerberos" characters in Mamoru Oshii's Kerberos Saga. Protect Gear is a key element of this franchise since the helmet became the saga's official logo, similar to the way the Labor head is used for Oshii's Headgear production team. Various Protect Gear "Types" (Shiki) as well as design variations - called "Version" - of a same type exist, though they share the same silhouette as a gimmick. The original all-black Protect Gear appeared in The Red Spectacles, it was created in 1986 by fellow Headgear artist Yutaka Izubuchi, a Japanese mechanical designer famous for his work on the Patlabor franchise. Fifty-three full scale Protect Gears were actually manufactured, by special effects companies such as Buildup, during the production of the Kerberos Saga's feature films; Three Type 92 in 1986 for The Red Spectacles, and fifty "body suits" (Type 92 and Type 10) for StrayDog: Kerberos Panzer Cops in 1990.
