Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Pulping is the process of converting wood or lignocellulosic nonwood material to separated pulp fibers for papermaking. While wood or other fibrous plants are by far the most widely used raw material in the production of paper, there are other options besides pure wood pulps. Recycled pulp is made from old newspapers, office paper waste, magazines, etc. Most paper that is recycled and pulped is mixed with cooked virgin pulp. Paper can only be recycled a few times before the fibers break down beyond what is acceptable to papermaking. Rag pulp is made from cotton. Paper made from cotton produces a high-quality, strong paper. This pulp is used mostly in writing grade papers and blended with virgin cooked fiber. A 25% cotton sheet will contain 25% cotton fiber and 75% virgin fiber.
